Meeting the needs of global dairy consumers

Emerging markets drive worldwide demand for dairy products faster than supply can satisfy. The U.S. dairy industry is working to better understand the global dairy marketplace and to address the impact of globalization on the U.S. dairy industry.

Traceability

In September 2013, the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy® released voluntary processor best practices for enhanced dairy traceability. At that time, processors comprising 20 percent of U.S. milk production had committed to adopt and apply the practices. The Innovation Center has set an ambitious goal of seeing commitment reach 80 percent by September 2014.

Global business case

Geographical boundaries have become irrelevant as globalization levels the playing field across the international dairy industry. Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy® research shows a demand gap, and the United States has an opportunity to fill that gap before emerging suppliers are drawn to the market. The original study was completed in 2009 and updated in 2011.
