Homemade Shake Recipes to Celebrate National Chocolate Milkshake Day

While any day is a good day to enjoy a homemade chocolate milkshake, one specific day is singled out for an all-out celebration: National Chocolate Milkshake Day.

According to National Day Calendar, the word “milkshake” was first used in print back in 1885, referring to “an alcoholic drink described as a ‘sturdy, healthful eggnog type of drink’ which was a blend of eggs, whiskey, and other ingredients served both as a tonic and treat at pharmacies.” These days, chocoloate milkshake recipes are certainly more kid-friendly, though they still cover a wide array of ingredients and mixtures.

This year, we're celebrating with our friends at American Dairy Association Mideast. It’s one of the country’s 16 regional organizations that help educate us all about science-based dairy information and the nutritional value of dairy products. While ADA Mideast works on behalf of dairy farm families in Ohio and West Virginia, its website features delicious recipes to enjoy no matter where you are. ADA Mideast works with some of the country’s best-known food bloggers to share recipes for everything from breakfast to entrees to snacks, so you’re bound to find something to tickle your taste buds.

Especially when it comes to National Chocolate Milkshake Day! Take a look at just some of the homemade shake recipes below that blend the flavor of chocolate with the magic of a blended drink then figure out which ones to make for your family so you can join the celebration!
