How we’ll get there from here.

The dairy industry’s Roadmap for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for fluid milk includes a portfolio of projects that, when fully implemented, will reduce GHG emissions by 3.2 million metric tons, a reduction of 12 percent from the baseline 2007/2008 GHG footprint. Together, these projects have the ability to reduce emissions equal to taking more than 500,000 cars off the road.

While the dairy industry continues to identify new ways of reducing its impact on the environment, this first step will help us achieve nearly half our goal to reduce GHG emissions by 25 percent by the year 2020.

Projects are under way in each segment of the value chain, from production of feed for dairy cows to processing, packaging and distribution of milk.
