Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy
The Innovation Center convenes leaders from across the dairy value chain to align on precompetitive priorities, drive progress and speak with one voice.
The Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy is a precompetitive forum founded by dairy farmers in 2008 and led by CEOs and farmer leaders of dairy cooperatives, companies and retailers representing more than 60% of the U.S. milk production, as well as CEOs from national associations representing dairy farmers and companies. The goal – bring together leaders and experts from across the dairy community to align on category-wide priorities and best practices and to advance a shared social responsibility platform.
Through the Innovation Center, the U.S. dairy community is committed to continuous progress in key areas that contribute to sustainable food systems – from human health and well-being to economically viable businesses and communities, and from animal care to stewardship of the land, water and natural resources.
Initiated in late 2018, the voluntary U.S. Dairy Stewardship Commitment advances and quantifies the U.S. dairy community’s actions and impact within key areas of sustainability, including the environment and animal care. To date, 28 dairy companies representing more than two-thirds of U.S. milk production have adopted the Stewardship Commitment and will collectively report progress and impact against sustainability metrics that reflect globally recognized standards.
Many more companies are engaged in the work, and more than 120 companies and organizations are members of the Innovation Center’s Dairy Sustainability Alliance®, a multi-stakeholder forum.

U.S. Dairy Stewardship Commitment
The U.S. Dairy Stewardship Commitment is U.S. Dairy’s social responsibility pledge to consumers, customers and other stakeholders. Companies that adopt the Stewardship Commitment meet defined criteria for important areas like animal care, the environment, traceability and community contributions, and report on impact in a transparent and meaningful way.
