Join us as we Celebrate Dietitians This Summer
Recently I had a young dietitian ask me for career advice. I answered with one word: agriculture! I believe we as dietitians have the power to change the world and changing the world starts with joining nutrition education and agriculture and connecting dietitians with farmers.
Last year, National Dairy Council (NDC) celebrated its 100th anniversary, and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2017. Here at National Dairy Council, there are over 100 registered dietitian nutritionists who work as part of our team. As President of National Dairy Council and Foundation Chair for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, I am honored to be involved with both of these organizations and to work with many incredible dietitians who are helping to connect people with agriculture and where their food comes from.
We would not be where we are today without the pioneering work of Ethel Austin Martin, the first dietitian who worked for NDC. She was the first to show dairy farmers the importance of dietitians’ work in educating the public about food, nutrition and health, paving the way for dietitians over the years.
While we continue to celebrate NDC’s 100 years and get ready to celebrate the Academy’s 100 years, let’s celebrate the dietitians who have had a part in the first century and those who will lead us into the second century. Over the next 100 days, we will be sharing stories from our 100+ dietitians who work with NDC. Each day, one of our dietitians will share with you their unique perspective of being a dietitian in the dairy community by using the hashtag #100Dietitians on Twitter. Over the next 100 days, you will learn what it’s like to be a dietitian working on behalf of dairy farmers, learn more about dairy farms, see some great pictures and receive some great recipes from our dietitians.
We hope you will follow along with us and meet us on Day 100 -- while we dietitians are at the Academy’s Food & Nutrition Expo 2016 in Boston!
