Photos of acai bowls are all over social media, and no wonder—they’re gorgeous! But they are more than a pretty purple plate. The live and active cultures in ingredients like kefir and Icelandic yogurt are good for your gut. And the berries on top are natural sweeteners.
The berry acai bowl comes to us from the Amazon region, where native palm trees produce the purple fruit. Pronounced ah-si-ee, it’s a Portuguese word. In the United States, acai berries may be found in a grocer’s freezer aisle.
If you’re looking for an acai bowl recipe, give this delicious and nutrition-packed version a try. Think of it as a thick smoothie topped with fresh fruit. Not a bad way to get plants into your day!
